This Bike Xdream was the first one for me. My team mates were Kert Martma and Rauno Neuhaus. They are bikers without orienteering background, so I had to make the plan and read the map. My plan was to take 27 (no controls #57, # 43 and #38) controls, because in 2010, 6 teams got 30 points and I thought that 90% could be possible.
Our round was against the clock beacause to take 4 nearby controls from Keila-Joa area and not to let them before finish. Then we moved to the East in the Southern part of the map. The control #48 was reachable only from 2 direcions - maybe we shoudn't had taken that control and control #47 also. With control #45 we lost quite a lot of time because we reached to control from wrong way and we missed small track after that control.
When arriving to the Noth I understood that out plan was impossible and then I planned not to take control #36 beacuse of bad reachability and #56 beacuse it was too far from control #55). I made navigational mistake before 33 and tracks were partly slow between controls #33 and #32. When 3h30min were passed near control #34, I suddenly felt very tired but after control #35 my feeling bot better. Other team mates didn't have problems and they pushed me forward if possible on gravel and quite often on the road. Then I understood that taking controls #54 and #55 is almost impossible. At control #39 I decided to go directly to the finish and it was right decision. Then it was final effort to finish.
When we arrived to the finish I heard tahat speaker told that control time was over. I had some kind of disappointment beacuse we weer only 11 second late. We lost 10 positions on leaderboard because of these 11 seconds. My team mates were happy to take part in such kind of bike competition. In my opinion without map reading it could be boring but hopefully in 2012 they also read the map.
From this competition, I got experience about route planning. If I had taken the target to take 24 controls, we could do it. In this case, no mistakes allowed and stable moderate high tempo is neccessary. I hope to take part and be in TOP10 in 2012!

Why don't you make such a detailed analysis of your performances on your main disciplines (MTBO) as you do on some irrelevant foot-o sprint competitions? Planning to change sports?
Hi!
It's very nice summary of this Bike Xdream MTBO team competition. Me and Rauno also very like this...how to you say...MTBO and mud-race mixture:) So Marek get ready for next year to read the map again and we will give the best to speed up our team:)
